What is an All-on-4 procedure?

An All-on-4 procedure transforms your smile in a day.

During traditional dental implant therapy, a dentist uses a small titanium screw (or dental implant) to replace the root of each missing tooth. That means if you’re missing 10 teeth, you receive 10 dental implants.

An All-on-4 procedure is different because your dentist places four dental implants in your upper arch and four in your lower arch. These four implants support screwed down bridges that replace all of the teeth in your mouth. 

Because the procedure only requires four dental implants, it’s quicker and presents fewer risks than traditional dental implant surgery.

What is an All-on-6 procedure?

An All-on-6 procedure is similar to an All-on-4 procedure. The only difference is your dentist places six dental implants in your upper arch and six dental implants in your lower arch. Having extra implants gives greater stress distribution that can support even more teeth.

Your Drs. Boyd P.C. provider recommends an All-on-6 procedure if you have low bone density or need additional bridge support.

Am I a candidate for All-on-4 dental implants?

Consider All-on-4 dental implants if you’ve lost most or all of the teeth in your upper or lower jaw and have healthy gums and jaw bones. 

During your initial consultation, tell your provider about the medications you take and if you smoke or use tobacco. After an oral exam and dental X-rays, they can determine if you’re a candidate for treatment.

What does an All-on-4 procedure involve?

First, your Drs. Boyd P.C. provider uses a digital scanner to take impressions of your upper and lower jaw. They upload your scans to a computer program and use an all-digital workflow to design a set of implant-retained bridges. 

Next, your provider numbs your mouth with a local anesthetic and places 4 - 6 implants in your upper arch and 4 - 6 implants in your lower arch. All-on-4 and All-on-6 implants are “immediate load” restorations that instantly replace your teeth. 

After placing the implants, your provider attaches your new dentures on top. The dentures restore your smile and your biting and chewing abilities.
